Monster Island, the Asylum’s 2019 mockbuster, came out around the same date as Godzilla King of the Monsters. The film tells the story of a mysterious island in which a monstrous creature lives. In a way, the creature is the island.


To keep costs down, the film only follows a handful of human characters and keeps its A-listers on one set so they can shoot all their sequences over lunch. But let's not forget that this is a kaiju film, and that's basically of how those things work, so maybe The Asylum won't do too badly (mentioned here) with it?
